Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, Suryabanshi Suraj, the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in Odisha, officially launched Khelo India centres across all 30 districts of the state through a virtual event.
These centres are the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Odisha's Sports and Youth Affairs Department, as stated by Suraj.
The primary goal of establishing Khelo India centres is to enhance sports infrastructure and nurture talent from the grassroots level.
Suraj emphasized that these centres will not only offer comprehensive training but also provide essential facilities for various sports, including football, volleyball, hockey, athletics, kho kho, and kabaddi.
Additionally, the Union government will allocate an annual budget of Rs 5 lakh for each centre to ensure effective management. Local sports champions will be appointed as coaches to guide the athletes.
Suraj noted, "These centres will play a crucial role for individuals aspiring to pursue a career in sports and will significantly contribute to fostering a sports culture in the region."
The initiative aims to create a national platform for athletes to display their skills and receive the necessary grooming and financial backing.
